Three ways to make your signature
- Draw it with your finger on a phone, a mouse, a trackpad or a stylus.
- Type your name and it’s set in a handwriting style. Fine for everyday forms. For anything formal, a drawn or photographed signature looks more like the one on your ID.
- Photo of your signature on paper. This is the one that looks most like you. Only the ink is kept, and the paper around it is removed, so it sits cleanly on the page with no grey box.
For a good photo: sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, a gel or felt-tip if you have one, then photograph it straight from above in daylight, filling most of the frame. If no ink can be found in the photo, the page says so and explains how to take a better one.
Choose Black or Blue ink. Blue is often preferred on Indian forms because it shows an original signature apart from a photocopy.
Where it goes
You often don’t have to place it at all. When the document asks for a signature, we find the place from its words: “Signature”, “Sign here”, “Signature of applicant”, “Authorised signatory”, “हस्ताक्षर” and similar labels, along with the line next to or above them. The signature starts there.
If a form asks in three places, a button says Sign all 3, and one tap signs every one.
If the document doesn’t say where, it starts at the bottom right of the last page, where most letters and agreements are signed. Many people just press Sign PDF at that point.
To move it, drag it. To make it bigger or smaller, drag its corner; it can’t go past the edge of the page. Tap any other page to put a signature there too, and remove any you don’t want.
Self-attested copies
Many Indian applications ask for “self-attested” copies: every page of your mark sheets, ID or certificates signed by you to confirm it’s a true copy. Turn on Sign every page (for self-attested copies) and the signature goes in the same spot on every page. Some offices also want the words “self-attested” written next to it. Ask them if you’re not sure.
Remembering your signature
Remember on this device is off unless you turn it on. When on, your signature is kept in this browser only, never on our servers, so next time it’s ready before you’ve done anything. Turning it off forgets it, and My Pocket shows what’s saved with a button to forget it. Leave it off on a shared or office computer.
Is it legally valid?
A signature added this way shows you agree to the document, and it’s accepted for most everyday paperwork: offer letters, rent agreements, school and society forms. It isn’t a certified digital signature. Some documents legally need one. In India, that includes some tax, company and court filings, which use a DSC or Aadhaar eSign. If you’re unsure, ask whoever will receive the document.
To fill a form before signing it, use Fill PDF form first. Its result has a Sign PDF button that brings the filled form straight here.
